What is the AV Swap?

Originally started in Houston TX, the AV Swap is an annual event that brings together the creative minds of artists, musicians, and filmmakers in an experimental collaborative event.

This year, the Swap is accepting submissions from Houston; New York City; Buffalo, NY; and Austin, TX.

Who can participate?

Anyone can participate! Whether you’re shooting on 35mm or your cell phone, whether you mix beats on Pro Tools or play the spoons, as long as you can get the pieces to us in the right formats, all are welcomed to join in on the fun.

Timeline

MON. JUN 22, 09: Drop off first submissions (Check local info for location)

JUN 23-28, 09: Trades are assigned and distributed

MON. JUL 20, 09: Final collaborations due

Every film in the A/V Swap will be played on the big screen in August and the Best Of screening will be held in September 2009. Screening dates in Houston, New York,Buffalo, and Austin will be forthcoming.

How does it work?

FIRST
Participants either submit a video piece without a soundtrack or an audio piece without any visuals.(Pieces should be no longer than 7 minutes)

THEN...
The AV Swap Team spend the next couple of days to take the submissions and facilitate the swap. Filmmakers will be given a piece of audio that they will have to create an original short film for. Musicians will be given a short film to create an original soundtrack for. Eveyone is given 5 weeks to create these original pieces.

FINALLY...
The new pieces are submitted to the AV Swap Team who will prepare all the pieces for the screening.

Technical Stuff

For video please provide high quality (at least 640 x 480 pixel size or larger) on a data DVD in good visual quality (large QuickTime PNG or QuickTime photo jpeg at best quality). Please try to avoid delivering NTSC DVD's, mpegs, etc.

For audio please provide full quality wave or aif files, no mp3's (ensuring that we have the best quality).

All entries should be between 1-7 minutes in runtime.
